Tribologically optimized materials are ideally used to reduce frictional resistance. At the same time, they reduce noise, lead to less wear and increase the ease of movement of knobs and controls. In the past, it was standard practice to work with PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) in the formulation of plastics.

The currently discussed EU ban on the use of substances from the PFAS group (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) is causing great uncertainty in the use of PTFE in plastics. PTFE - which belongs to the PFAS group - is persistent and bioaccumulative and cannot be broken down in the environment.

SITRAPLAS: Advantages over alternative solutions

SITRAPLAS, the East Westphalian compounder for innovative technical plastic solutions, already offers PTFE-free plastics for tribological applications, thus preventing a ban on PFAS-containing additives. Despite the absence of PTFE, SITRAPLAS products offer excellent sliding properties over a long period of time. Tribological endurance tests in the TriboPlast test laboratory in Annaberg-Buchholz show this: The new SITRAPLAS compounds offer clear advantages over alternative solutions thanks to their homogeneous vibration curve.

Minimized wear behavior

The aim of the SITRAPLAS product developers was to ensure constant sliding friction over the entire service life of the product. The experts completely dispensed with silicones, graphite or molybdenum. The PTFE-free sliding friction solutions score points for their minimized wear behaviour and can be adjusted in almost any color. They can be used in many technical applications - especially where movement and ease of use go hand in hand: from mechanical engineering and the automotive industry to household appliances.
